INS Interim Rule Allows Part-Time Commuter Study in F, M Nonimmigrant Categories for Border Students (9/9/02)
The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) issued an interim rule on August 27, 2002, effective the same day, clarifying that eligible Mexican or Canadian nationals who reside outside the U.S. and commute regularly across a land border to study may do so on a part-time basis within the F or M nonimmigrant categories.

INS Expands Special Registration Requirements, Effective on 9/11 One-Year Anniversary (9/9/02)
The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) published a notice on September 6, 2002, expanding the special registration requirements for certain nonimmigrants, effective September 11, 2002. The notice applies the expanded requirements to certain nonimmigrants from the existing list of designated countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, and Sudan), and adds Syria to the list

INS Extends TPS Designation for Burundi, Sudan (9/9/02)
The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) has extended the temporary protected status (TPS) designations for Burundi and Sudan until November 2, 2003. Eligible nationals of the two countries, or aliens having no nationality who last habitually resided in Burundi or Sudan, may re-register for TPS and an extension of employment authorization during the 60-day re-registration period, which began on August 30, 2002, and ends on October 29, 2002.
