HOW US IMMIGRATION WORKS:

In order to establish whether one is eligible to apply for any type of visa whether for temporary or residence, one must understand the available option.

The following will assist in the overall understanding of the visa structure: There are 2 types of visas:

  • Non-immigrant Visas which are temporary visas.
  • Immigrant Visas which are permanent visas.

Once you have established whether you are applying for an Immigrant visa or an Non-immigrant visa the next step would be to ensure that you qualify under the specified requirements.

Many are under the impression that anyone can successfully apply for residence in the United States within a matter of weeks or months. In most cases this is NOT true. Our web site will list various eligibility requirements for different types of visas. A valid visa is necessary for most aliens who wish to apply for entry in to the U.S.A. There are various applications available these are primarily divided into 2 categories:

  • Immigrant Visas
    (Permanent Residence.)

  • Non-immigrant Visas
    (Temporary Residence.)

Applying for American Citizenship would, in most cases, require the fulfillment of being a permanent residence for a specific amount of time first. To gain permanent residence the alien would have had to qualify and successfully apply for an Immigrant visa (as listed above). One simple analogy would be to compare permanent residence with a "Green Card" and citizenship with a "US Passport".
