Will Trump’s immigration stance be clarified on Wednesday?

Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump, has announced that he will make a speech about illegal immigration. The speech will take place in Arizona on Wednesday. The announcement follows a week of speculation that Trump’s hard-line attitude, including his desire to deport the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living illegally in the US, may be softening.

Trump announced the speech in a tweet on Sunday, replacing a speech originally set for last week in Colorado. This was pushed back as Trump and his team dealt with the details of his intended proposals. There was much debate in his campaign regarding how harsh Trump’s policies should be towards undocumented immigrants who have not otherwise broken any laws.

Trump’s changing stance has drawn criticism from some of his supporters and has also brought difficulties for his advisers to explain his position. This also applies to his running mate, Vice Presidential nominee Mike Pearce. The team behind a Presidential candidate should be able to speak on their behalf in their absence. This has not been the case for Trump recently. Other surrogates, though, such as campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, and the Governor of Indiana, have stated that the primary tenets of Trump’s campaign, including building a wall between the US and Mexico, remain unchanged.

Although Democratic Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, remains in front in most polls, Trump has been trying to gain the advantage by pressing for the African-American vote and announcing a $10 million ad campaign in nine states, starting this week.
