Supreme Court Revives Trump Travel Ban

Supreme Court revives Trump travel banPresident Donald Trump has hailed a Supreme Court ruling, enabling the revival of at least part of his controversial travel ban, a victory for the national security of the US. The highest court in the land also granted a request by the White House enabling the implementation of some of their ban on immigrant refugees.

The Justices added that they would consider whether Trump’s policy should be struck down or upheld in October. The President wants a 90-day ban on allowing visitors from six Muslim-majority countries, as well as implementing a 120-day ban on immigrant refugees. Trump welcomed the qualified authorization and announced that the ban would be implemented within 72 hours of the ruling.

Monday’s decision saw the Supreme Court announce that the travel ban could not be implemented against foreign nationals who have a genuine relationship with an entity or individual in the US, but that others can be subject to the executive order. The Supreme Court also ruled to allow a 120-day ban on all immigrant refugees entering the country, permitting the Trump administration to ban refugees lacking a bona fide relationship with entities or people in the US.

The decision reaffirms the sweeping powers that have always been granted to the President of the US when it comes to national security. The Justices wrote that there is a compelling need for the government to provide for the security of the nation in a victory for Trump.
