How to Renew an Expired Green Card
The green card is a proof of permanent resident status in the U.S. and is also a proof of identity and eligibility to live and work permanently in the country. It is important to have a valid green card at all times. To renew an expired green card, the applicant should file Form I-90.
Steps to Renew an Expired Green Card
1. The applicant completes Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card.
2. The applicant attaches the filing fee of $450, which includes $365 application fee and $85 biometric services fee.
The fee must be paid by check or money order, drawn from a bank or financial institution in the U.S.
3. The applicant submits the application.

4. The applicant awaits confirmation from USCIS.
If the applicant has attached a completed Form G-1145, Notification of Acceptance of Application/Petition, with the application, they will receive an email/text message, when the application has been accepted. Applicants will be issued a receipt number, which can be used to track the application.
5. The applicant awaits a decision from USCIS.
USCIS will verify the application and if approved, the applicant will receive a new green card by mail.
