Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, is used to renew a green card that has expired or is due to expire in the next six months.

Steps to Get Form I-90 for Green Card Renewal

1. If the green card has already expired or is due to expire in the next six months, the applicant obtains the form I-90 from USCIS, either from a U.S. embassy or consulate, a USCIS office or online.

2. The applicant fills out form I-90 as per the instructions.

Along with the form, the applicant sends a copy of his/her green card.

3. To receive an e-Notification when the Form I-90 has been accepted, the applicant also completes form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance, and attaches it to the application.

4. Once the form is checked for completeness and approved, the applicant receives notification about biometrics appointment and the interview.

Only some applicants are required to have an interview for green card renewal.

5. After the application is approved and once the interview is over, the applicant will receive a new green card valid for ten years.
