To apply for naturalization, you will need to file Form N-400, Application for Naturalization. Before you apply for naturalization, you need to ensure that you meet all eligibility criteria for the application.


Steps to File for Naturalization

1Complete and submit USCIS form N-400, Application for Naturalization.

2Prepare the package of necessary documents and passport-style photographs.

3Send your application and filing fee to the appropriate Lockbox Facility or Service Center.

4You will receive an appointment letter for biometric services from USCIS. Visit a USCIS fingerprinting location and have fingerprints taken.

5You will also receive an appointment for an interview with a USCIS Officer. Go to your local USCIS office at the specified time for the interview and citizenship test.

6Bring state-issued identification, permanent resident card (green card), and any additional documents specific to your case.

7If the interview and test are successful, you will be approved for naturalization and scheduled for the oath or swearing in ceremony.

8The oath or swearing in ceremony is the final step in becoming a U.S. citizen. In this ceremony, you will pledge your allegiance to the U.S. and receive a Certificate of Naturalization, officially becoming a U.S. citizen.
