How to File Form I-751

Commemorating Constitution Day and Citizenship Day

If granted a green card through marriage, the permanent resident’s status is conditional for the first two years. Before their green card expires, they must file Form I-751 to remove the conditions of residence and receive a 10-year green card.

Steps to file Form I-751

1. The applicant completes Form I-751, Petition to Remove the Conditions of Residence, with all required information.

2. The applicant attaches a copy of their green card with the application.

3. The applicant attaches documents to prove that their marriage was in good faith.

4. The applicant attaches the filing fee of $505 with the application.

An additional biometrics fee of $85 has to be included in some cases.

5. The applicant mails the application to USCIS California Service Center or USCIS Vermont Service Center, depending on where they live.
