How to Get Green Card through Investment
Investment-based green cards are for foreign entrepreneurs who wish to invest at least $500,000 in a U.S. company. To be eligible, applicants must plan to preserve or create at least 10 permanent, full time jobs for U.S. employers and meet all other eligibility requirements for U.S. permanent residence
Steps to Get Green Card through Investment
1. The applicant files Form I-526, Immigrant Petition by Alien Entrepreneur.
2. If the applicant wants to receive an e-mail and/or a text message when the form has been accepted at a USCIS Lockbox facility, he/she should attach Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance with the application.
3. After the I-526 petition is approved, the applicant may file for a U.S. immigrant visa (if outside the U.S.) or apply to adjust status to permanent resident (if in the U.S.).
If the applicant is already in the U.S., he/she files Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, along with the following documents:
- Two passport-style photos
- Form G-325A, Biographic Information
- Copy of government issued photo identification
- Copy of birth certificate
- Copy of passport page with nonimmigrant visa (if applicable)
- Copy of passport page with admission (entry) or parole stamp (if applicable)
- Certified copies of court records (if applicable)
- Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record
- Applicable fees
- The approval notice for Form I-526
If the applicant is outside the U.S., he/she applies for an immigrant visa through consular processing. He/she files Form DS-260, Online Immigrant Visa Application, with the National Visa Center. A passport-style photograph will have to be electronically uploaded with the application and additional documents, similar to the ones above, may be requested.
4. Once the application is submitted, the applicant waits for notification about the biometrics and the visa interview.
If in the U.S., the interview will take place at a USCIS office. If outside the U.S., the interview will take place at a U.S. consulate or embassy.
5. If the application is approved and the interview is successful, the applicant is issued a visa for U.S. or is granted permanent resident status and receives a green card.
If applying through consular processing, the applicant will receive a green card once in the U.S.
