Steps to File for Naturalization

1. Complete and submit USCIS form N-400, Application for Naturalization.

2. Prepare the package of necessary documents and passport-style photographs.

3. Send your application and filing fee to the appropriate Lockbox Facility or Service Center.

4. You will receive an appointment letter for biometric services from USCIS. Visit a USCIS fingerprinting location and have fingerprints taken.

5. You will also receive an appointment for an interview with a USCIS Officer. Go to your local USCIS office at the specified time for the interview and citizenship test.

6. Bring state-issued identification, permanent resident card (green card), and any additional documents specific to your case.

7. If the interview and test are successful, you will be approved for naturalization and scheduled for the oath or swearing in ceremony.

8. The oath or swearing in ceremony is the final step in becoming a U.S. citizen. In this ceremony, you will pledge your allegiance to the U.S. and receive a Certificate of Naturalization, officially becoming a U.S. citizen.
