Famous Immigrant Americans Who Were Born in April

Millions of immigrants reside in the U.S. Most foreigners immigrate to America to work here. However, many come here to reunite with their family members who have settled here. Though the country is made up of immigrants, many are against immigration and immigrants. Here are some notable immigrant Americans born in April who have contributed to the country and also sacrificed their lives for the U.S.

James Gamble, the co-founder of Procter & Gamble Company was born on April 3, 1803. He co-founded the company with his brother-in-law William Procter. He held dual citizenship with both Ireland and America.

Stana Katic, who born in Canada will celebrate her birthday on April 26. She is a television and film actress who holds both Canadian and American citizenship. She is well known for her role as Detective Kate Beckett in the ABC series Castle.

Joseph Pulitzer, well-known for creating the Pulitzer Prize was born on April 10, 1847, in Mako, Hungary. He gave up his allegiance to Hungary and obtained U.S. citizenship through naturalization on March 6, 1867. He along with William Randolph Hearst, created a new kind of journalism.

Franklin Chang Díaz, who celebrated his birthday on April 5, is a former NASA astronaut. Dr. Chang Díaz who is now the President and CEO of Ad Astra Rocket Company was born in Costa Rica. He became a U.S. citizen in 1977.

Sergeant Uday Singh, the first native of India to be killed in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom on December 1, 2003 was born on April 23, 1982. He was killed before his naturalization ceremony. However, U.S. citizenship was conferred upon Sergeant Singh posthumously. Bronze Star and Purple Heart were awarded to him by the U.S. Military for his actions.

Djimon Gaston Hounsou became an American citizen in 2007. He will celebrate his birthday on April 24. Hounsou who was born in Benin now holds citizenship in both Benin and in the U.S. The Beninese American actor has been nominated for two Academy Awards.
