USCIS Moves to Digital-Only Payments

Big news for visa and immigration applicants:
Starting October 29, 2025, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will stop accepting paper checks and money orders for all immigration and visa application fees. From that date onward, all payments must be made digitally — a move designed to make the process faster, safer, and more convenient.

What This Means for You

If you’re submitting a paper-based application, you’ll now need to pay electronically using one of these approved methods:

  • Credit or debit card — submit Form G-1450 (Authorization for Credit Card Transactions)
  • Bank account (ACH debit) — submit Form G-1650 (Authorization for ACH Transactions)

Applicants filing online can continue using the existing digital payment options — no change there.

Why the Change?

This update supports the federal initiative under Executive Order 14247 – “Modernizing Payments to and from America’s Bank Account.”By eliminating paper-based payments, USCIS aims to:

  • Speed up application processing
  • Prevent lost or delayed payments
  • Reduce fraud and theft risks
  • Enhance overall security and efficiency

More than 90% of previous USCIS payments came via checks and money orders, often causing processing delays. The new system is a major step toward modernizing immigration services.

What You Should Do Now

If you’re planning to submit your immigration or visa application after October 29, make sure you’re ready to pay electronically.
Paper checks or money orders sent after this date will be rejected, and your application won’t be processed.
