Republicans seethe over plans to order 34 million green cardsRepublican members of Congress are getting hot under the collar about the announcement by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services that up to 34 million new green cards are to be ordered. The Republicans believe that President Obama is intending to take extreme measures when he fulfills his promise to enact immigration reform via executive authority later this year.

The reports of the orders are “proof that the groundwork is already being laid to grant amnesty post-election to millions upon millions of people who have broken our laws to enter this country”, says Pennsylvania Republican Lou Barletta, adding that the Obama administration has already gone beyond its authority in order to manipulate the immigration laws in the United States and clearly intends to go to the extreme after the November mid-term elections.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services has been soliciting online for a firm able to produce at least four million cards per annum for five years, with nine million per annum early on. With President Obama’s stated intention to act on the issue of immigration reform after the elections, many Republicans have put two and two together and come up with the answer ‘amnesty’.

“This revelation provides startling confirmation of the crisis facing our Republic,” insists Senate Budget Committee chairman Jeff Sessions, accusing Obama of trying to “nullify the immigration laws of the United States”. Christopher Bentley, spokesman for the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, says that the proposal was routine and a frequent practice, and should not be taken as an indication of the president’s plans.
